After yesterday’s slow start today was a little better. I finally got Visual Studio to work and found some time to familiarize myself with it. I also realized that it has been some time since I last used C++. While a lot seemed familiar and things like pointers made a lot more sense then back when I first learned about them, I still have some more catching up to do.
So what I did today was basically getting Visual Studio to work and rebuilding the project from the tutorial I mentioned yesterday. Since I am not the biggest fan of the hungarian notation I wanted to make some changes, but those messed everything up. So for now I have an identical copy of the tutorial but I’m planning on changing that tomorrow. I’m hoping that tomorrow will be my last day with Tetris since I’m not very happy with my initial approach. While I do think it’s a good thing that I’m getting familiar with Visual Studio and C++ for game development, I want to get to coming up with mechanics and code on my own as fast as possible. I’m also hoping that I will have something to show off tomorrow and a little bit more to write about.
